Hackensack Riverkeeper Hiring For Laurel Hill Kayaking Jobs

SECAUCUS, NJ — Join the crew! Hackensack Riverkeeper is looking for part-time, seasonal staff for their two Paddling Center locations for the 2019 season. Both locations will require most weekends from mid-April through September.

The two locations are:

Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus - The hours are almost exclusively on weekends. Some weekday holidays (i.e. Fourth of July, Memorial Day, etc.) and some evening hours are required.

Overpeck Park Kayak Center in Leonia - This location has weekday and weekend hours. Some weekday holidays (i.e. Fourth of July, Memorial Day, etc.) and some evening hours are required.

This job can be fast-paced and strenuous at times, but provides many hours of splendid summertime relaxation in a beautiful spot by the water! Responsibilities include:

• Greeting the public and providing information about Hackensack Riverkeeper’s Eco-Programs (including paddling), overall mission, environmental issues and local wildlife
• Signing people up for canoe and kayak rentals and for guided paddles, including handling cash and credit card payments, and providing paddlers with PFDs, paddles and maps
• Providing basic instruction and safety talk to paddlers and monitoring their paddling
• Lifting, carrying and safely launching canoes and kayaks
• Launching and driving our powered safety boat
• On-water rescue of overturned boats (by safety boat and/or by canoe or kayak)
• Daily washing of equipment and general housekeeping
• Other work as needed to benefit the organization’s mission

Requirements:

• Extensive paddling experience and safety training is preferred
• Ability to lift heavy boats, including high over one’s head onto racks
• Reliable transportation
• Candidate must be presentable and professional and comfortable speaking with the public
• New Jersey State Boating Safety Certificate (or the time and willingness to take a course to acquire one)
