Here's Why The Secaucus Walmart Did A Redesign
The redesign was complete Friday morning, with a party, birthday cake for Mayor Gonnelli and donations to the Secaucus PBA and Fire Dept.:
SECAUCUS, NJ — Any Secaucus Walmart shopper noticed the store's interior has undergone a total redesign in the past six months.
Walmart did the redesign to push certain "highly-shopped" areas to the front of the store, including baby food, pet food/pet products and paper products. Walmart also expanded its women's clothing and home decor sections, and made those areas more attractive to shoppers.
Walmart said Friday they wanted to provide an "updated experience for customers." The Secaucus Walmart was one of 11 stores in New Jersey chosen for a remodel. The Secaucus mega-Walmart is considered one of the company's "flagship stores" in the nation, along with Teterboro and North Bergen.

What to expect at the new Secaucus Walmart:
- What Walmart calls "activated corners:" Corner displays now featured at the corners of home lines, baby and apparel "to pull customers in and help them touch, feel and become a part of the space, allowing them to discover all that Walmart has to offer."
- More demo stations in electronics
- Expanded pet department, including bigger selection of fresh and dry pet food
- New women's apparel brands now in store, such as Reebok, Polo, Chaps, Sam & Libby and more
- New cosmetics lines like Mario Badescu, By Terry, Beauty Space and Philip B.
- Four Walmart+ lanes for easier checkout for members
- Digital touchpoints: These new touchpoints are located throughout the store using QR codes. For example, in Walmart’s expanded "Pets" area, a customer may scan the QR code to find additional dog bed options, learn about Walmart’s pet insurance service options or have a 20-pound bag of dog food delivered to their door.
The redesign was completed Friday. Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday there have been vendors, local food trucks, music, games for kids and a cake for Mayor Mike Gonnelli (Friday is his birthday).
