Homeowner 'Devastated' After Fire In Secaucus Home

With Christmas right around the corner, a family on Hagan Place in Secaucus cannot return home after a fire occurred there Monday.

SECAUCUS, NJ — This was the scene on Hagan Place in Secaucus Tuesday morning after two homes there were badly damaged by a fire Monday.

The fire broke out in the pre-dawn hours of yesterday morning, Monday, Dec. 11, at about 3 a.m. The fire originated at the home pictured at left, and spread to the home next door, on the right.

The homeowner where it originated said the fire started under her backyard deck and they have no idea what caused it. She was surveying the damage Tuesday morning.

"We were sleeping and we were woken up by a loud "pop!" sound and I looked out and saw all red," she told Patch. "I'm devastated by this and I really don't want to rehash it."

The home where the fire started was boarded up by the Secaucus Dept. of Public Works on Monday. Jersey City and Rutherford fire departments assisted Secaucus' volunteer firefighters.
