Kentucky Woman Had Illegal Gun Outside Secaucus Red Roof Inn: Police

A Kentucky woman was charged with illegally possessing a handgun Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn:

SECAUCUS, NJ — A Kentucky woman was charged with illegally possessing a handgun Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on Meadowlands Parkway.

At 11:35 a.m. Sunday, Secaucus Police Officer Jaden Gonzalez was patrolling the area near the Red Roof when he observed an occupied black Chevrolet Equinox not moving in the parking lot for an extended period of time, idling.

After a brief discussion with the occupants, Police Officer Gonzalez said he became aware that Ashley Grant, 38, of Richmond, KY possessed a handgun within the vehicle. During a search of the Equinox, a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver was seized along with some handgun ammunition.

Grant was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun [2C:39-5b(1)]. She has an appearance scheduled in Secaucus town court.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller praised Officer Gonzalez for approaching the car, initiating conversation with the occupants and finding the allegedly illegal gun.

“I commend Police Officer Gonzalez’s initiative,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “All Units and

Divisions of the Secaucus Police Department remain committed to proactively policing this
Town to make it safer for our residents and visitors alike. We will actively pursue the criminal
element and bring them to justice, hoping they are held accountable for their crimes.”
These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven
guilty.
