Man Found Beaten To Death In Car Trunk In Bayonne

A 34-year-old Jersey City man was found beaten to death in the trunk of a car in Bayonne Saturday night, Dec. 7.

BAYONNE, NJ — A 34-year-old Jersey City man was found beaten to death in the trunk of a car in Bayonne Saturday night, Dec. 7, according to the office of the Hudson County Prosecutor, Esther Suarez.

At 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, Bayonne police responded to the area of 17th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne on a report of possible criminal activity. Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive man in the trunk of a Lincoln Town Car at that location.

The man was later identified as Michael Rumberger, 34, of Jersey City. He was found to have trauma to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:00 p.m.

The exact cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are
actively investigating. No arrests have been made.
