Man Molested Patient At Jersey City Medical Center, Police Say

He was charged with sneaking into the room of an 80-year-old female patient at the Jersey City Medical Center on June 6, and molesting her.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A judge decided this week to keep a Jersey City man in jail after he was charged with sneaking into the room of an 80-year-old female patient at the Jersey City Medical Center on June 6, and sexually molesting her.

Police say that on Wednesday, June 6 the man, Jackie Burgess, 46, sneaked into the woman's room and digitally penetrated her vagina with his fingers. The woman said she was sleeping in her room on the sixth floor when she awoke to find an unknown black man, wearing all black, standing over her. It was just before 9 a.m. She at first thought he was medical staff there to remove her catheter, but he then started rubbing her vagina.

She pressed the call button for a nurse and Burgess ran out of the room. He was arrested shortly thereafter by hospital security.

The woman was in the hospital for leg surgery, and he was also charged with knowingly inflicting bodily injury on her, as he deliberately pushed down on the leg that had just had surgery, police said.

Security officers reviewed cameras from the sixth floor hallway and Burgess was seen on video walking into her room at the hospital, according to the criminal complaint.

When he was taken to the Hudson County jail, Burgess was then seen on video masturbating in his jail cell. A judge decided on Monday to keep him in jail until his trial, a spokesman for the Hudson County prosecutor's office told Patch.
