Man Shot In Car On NJ Turnpike In Secaucus

A Texas man was shot in the car he was in Monday afternoon on the NJ Turnpike in Secaucus, according to New Jersey State Police.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A Texas man was shot in the car after an altercation Monday afternoon on the NJ Turnpike in Secaucus, according to New Jersey State Police.

The man survived being shot and he was helped by a Good Samaritan driving by, who picked him up, put him in their car and drove him to Paterson Plank Road in Secaucus. There, they met with a Secaucus Police officer, who notified State Police.

The shooting happened at 2:26 p.m. Monday. Police say a white Nissan was traveling on the Turnpike northbound when it stopped at Exit 17, the exit for Secaucus, Rt. 3 and the Lincoln Tunnel. The car got off the Turnpike at mile marker 113, the off-ramp for Secaucus.

Police say that was where an altercation broke out in the Nissan between the victim and two male suspects. During the altercation, the victim, a 52-year-old man from Houston, TX, sustained a gunshot wound.

The Nissan then stopped on the left shoulder of the Interchange 17 ramp; all occupants got out of the car — including the man who had been shot — and two men began to further physically assault him.

The two suspects then got back in the Nissan and fled the scene.

A Good Samaritan assisted the victim by driving him to Paterson Plank Road in Secaucus, where they met with a Secaucus Police officer. The Texas man was transported to an area hospital for further medical evaluation.

No arrests have been made.
