Men Arrested In Secaucus' North End Drug Dealing Investigation

SECAUCUS, NJ — In May, Secaucus police said they received complaints of drug dealing in the North End of town. Police did not specify which streets. But on Monday night, police arrested these two men on Rt. 3 and said they found 79 vials of suspected crack cocaine, plus heroin in their car.

For the past two months, Secaucus detectives have done a surveillance of the North End, and they were doing this surveillance last night (Monday, July 13). Just past 9 p.m., detectives stopped Jihad Shabazz and Steven Rojas in the area of Rt. 3 east.

During a search of Shabazz’s car, detectives found 79 vials of suspected crack cocaine and a small quantity of suspected heroin inside the car, said police. Rojas was also found with an additional five vials of suspected crack cocaine on his person, said police.

Shabazz, 23 of West New York and Rojas, 19 of Jersey City were both arrested. A small amount of U.S. cash was also found, which police believe are drug proceeds.

They were each charged with multiple illegal drug charges, including intent to sell, and taken to the Hudson County jail last night.

“Resident complaints are a priority for the Secaucus Police Department," said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. "These arrests are a direct result of the partnership between the public and the police."
