SECAUCUS, NJ — A package of fentanyl was discovered Tuesday at the Secaucus UPS mail center on County Avenue, police said.

Someone was trying to illegally ship the fentanyl via UPS, and federal authorities have taken over the case, said Secaucus police Capt. Dennis Miller. He said it's not at all uncommon that drugs, legal or otherwise, are caught trying to be sent via the U.S. mail system.

The package of fentanyl was taken to Secaucus town hall, which is where police headquarters is located. Fentanyl is extremely powerful; even minute amounts can kill someone.
