Harmon Cove Towers' 4-Day Power Outage Was Internal, Says PSE&G

SECAUCUS, NJ — A spokeswoman for PSE&G confirmed Tuesday that the electrical problem causing a major power outage at Harmon Cove Towers is an internal problem within the building.

"Regarding Harmon Cove Towers in Secaucus, PSE&G is in communication with the customer regarding an internal electrical issue," said PSE&G corporate spokeswoman Marijke Shugrue. "We stand ready to provide support if needed once the customer’s required repairs have been completed."

The electricity at Harmon Cove Towers 3 has been out since Saturday. It is still out as of midday Tuesday.

Some Harmon Cove Towers 3 residents — who have now been without power for four days — insist the problem is external (meaning PSE&G's fault), and that other properties and homes in the area don't have power.

That is not true nor accurate, Mayor Mike Gonnelli said Tuesday.

Only Harmon Cove 3 Tower lost electricity starting Saturday. No other homes or properties in the area lost power.

PSE&G said they identified what happened, and they will be working to fix it Tuesday. They will be shutting down power to the entire Tower 3 and replacing the line.

However, it remains an internal fuse within the tower that broke, stressed Gonnelli.

A call to the Harmon Cove Towers management office was never returned.

Electric power will be out for all 200 apartments within Tower 3 all of Tuesday afternoon. PSE&G hopes to have it restored by 6 p.m.
