Secaucus Police Blotter, April 13 - April 19

A local teen was charged with trespassing inside the shuttered Empire Hotel near Harmon Cove on Sunday, said police.

SECAUCUS, NJ — Released by Secaucus police, all of last week's arrests:

On April 13 at 4:27 p.m., a 32-year-old man, Michael Bruno of Secaucus, NJ entered Secaucus Police Headquarters to turn himself in for the charge of Giving False Information during the Application for a Firearms ID card or Permit [2C:39-10]. Bruno was served his complaint summons and was released from police custody.

On April 15 at 4:16 p.m., Secaucus police responded to UPS located at 493 County Avenue to take into custody a 25-year-old male, Jason Rivera of Passaic, NJ for one outstanding NCIC warrant issued out of Nutley, NJ with no bail. Officers from the Nutley Police Department responded to Secaucus police headquarters and took custody of Rivera for transport to their authority.

On April 16 at 11:39 a.m., Secaucus police responded to the Extended Stay America Hotel located at 1 Plaza Drive on a report of a theft. During the investigation, the police arrested a 37-year-old male, Fernando Leyva of Jersey City for one NCIC warrant issued out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office with no bail and one outstanding warrant issued out of Weehawken, NJ in the amount of $124. Leyva was able to post bail for the warrant issued out of Weehawken and was released from police custody on his own recognizance.

On April 19 at 7:20 p.m., Secaucus police responded to the old Empire Hotel located at 2 Harmon Plaza on report of a trespasser inside the structure. During the investigation, the police arrested a 17-year-old, juvenile male of Secaucus for Criminal Trespass [2C:18-3a] after he exited the structure. The juvenile was released to his parent. Teens have tried to break into the closed Empire Hotel before. The Empire Hotel has been closed for at least two years now; its owners wanted to convert some of the top floors to residential housing, but were blocked by the town.

These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
