A 68-year-old Secaucus man was criminally charged after police say he hit his toddler grandson in the head in the Walmart parking lot:

SECAUCUS, NJ — Released by Secaucus Police, all of last week's arrests:

On Feb. 19 at 10:54 p.m., Secaucus Police observed a motor vehicle idling in the right lane of traffic in the area of 100 Park Plaza Drive. During the investigation, the police arrested a 54-year-old male, Jose Luna of Lodi, NJ for Driving While Intoxicated [39:4-50]. Mr. Luna was issued his motor vehicle summons for Driving While Intoxicated along with 1 additional motor vehicle summons and he was released into the custody of a responsible adult.

On Feb. 23 at 1:53 a.m., Secaucus Police observed a motor vehicle stopped in the Shell gas station located at 300 Rt. 3 East with significant damage to its front end and smoke emitting from the engine. During the investigation, the police arrested a 34-year-old male, Clive Joseph of North Bergen, NJ for Driving While Intoxicated [39:4-50]. Mr. Joseph was also found to be in possession of fifty wax folds of suspected heroin. Mr. Joseph was charged with Possession of CDS [2C:35-10a(1)] and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia [2C:36-2]. He was also issued his motor vehicle summons for Driving While Intoxicated along with an additional 2 motor vehicle summonses and he was released into the custody of a responsible adult.

On Feb. 23 at 10:38 a.m., in relation to an incident of false reports that occurred at the Extended Stay America located at 1 Meadowlands Parkway on Feb. 10, the Secaucus Police responded to the Hudson County Superior Court to take into custody a 33-year-old male, Tony Russell of Avenel, NJ for False Reports to Law Enforcement [2C:28-4A], False Public Alarms [2C:33-3A(1)(B) and False Public Alarms by dialing 911 [2C:33-3E]. Mr. Russell was issued his complaint warrant and was subsequently transported to the Hudson County Jail.

On Feb. 23 at 8:46 p.m., in an effort to combat vice related crimes in the town of Secaucus, the Secaucus Police arrested a 33-year-old female, Yadolis Martinezcastro of Yonkers, NY along with a 39-year-old female, Ana Espinal Mercedes of Paterson, NJ for Engaging in Prostitution [2C:34-1B(8)]. Both Ms. Martinezcastro and Ms. Espinal Merceedes were issued their complaint summonses and were released from police custody.

On Feb. 23 at 9:33 p.m., during a motor vehicle stop, Secaucus Police arrested a 42-year-old male, Hassan Ahmad of Jersey City, NJ for Hindering Apprehension [2C:29-3B(4)] for providing false information to the police, Possession of CDS believed to be Cocaine [2C:35-10A(1)] and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia [2C:36-2A]. Mr. Ahmad was also found to have 1 outstanding NCIC warrant issued by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. The police also arrested a 48-year-old male, Daryn Martillo of Jersey City, NJ for 1 outstanding warrant issued out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office with no bail. Mr. Martillo was issued 1 motor vehicle summons and was subsequently transported to the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Ahmad was issued six motor vehicle summonses and was subsequently transported to the Hudson County Jail.

On Feb. 24 at 11:36 a.m., Secaucus Police responded to Kohl’s on a report of a shoplifting. During the investigation, police arrested a 37-year-old male, Leoncio Mendocalderon of Jersey City, NJ for Shoplifting [2C:20-11B(2)] and Possession of Burglar Tools [2C:5-5A(2)]. Mr. Mendocalderon was issued his complaint summons and was released from police custody.

On Feb. 24 at 4:32 p.m., Secaucus Police responded to Marshall’s on a report of a shoplifting. During the investigation, the police arrested a 41-year-old male, Cesar Monteszambrano of Jersey City, NJ for Shoplifting [2C:20-11B(5)]. Mr. Monteszambrano was issued his complaint summons and he was released from police custody.

On Feb. 25 at 5:00 a.m., the Secaucus Police responded to the NJ Transit Police Department to take into custody a 21-year-old male, Jacob Charles of Roselle, NJ for 1 outstanding warrant issued out of Secaucus, NJ for the charge of Eluding [2C:29-2B] with no bail. Mr. Charles was also found to have 1 outstanding NCIC warrant issued by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office with no bail, 1 outstanding warrant issued out of Jersey City, NJ with no bail and 1 outstanding warrant issued out of Linden, NJ in the amount of $750. Charles was subsequently transported to the Hudson County Jail.

On Feb. 25 at 9:40 a.m., Secaucus Police responded to the parking lot of Walmart for a report of a man striking a toddler in the head. It was a passerby, a stranger, who called 911. Police arrested a 68-year-old Secaucus man and charged him with Endangering the Welfare of a Child [2C:24-4A(2)] and Simple Assault [2C:12-1A(1)]. The child was 3; the man was his grandfather and Secaucus Police say the child received a minor cut/scratch along his face and neck from being hit.

The man was issued his complaint summons and was released from police custody. Secaucus Police refused to release more info. beyond this on this incident.

On Feb. 25 at 11:40 p.m., Secaucus were investigating a vehicle parked in the area of Meadowlands Parkway facing the wrong way. During the investigation, the police arrested a 22-year-old, Sheyla Campos of Union City for an active warrant out of Elizabeth with a bail in the amount of $550. Ms. Campos posted bail and was released from police custody.

These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
