SECAUCUS, NJ — Check out all the fun stuff happening at your local library this month, including Secaucus' first-ever car and motorcycle show Sept. 22 (which will actually be held at the Rec Center, not the library):
Wednesday, September 5th. 6pm-7:30pm. Become a Notary Public. Featured speaker Alfred Piombino will discuss appointment, regulations, rules and ethics, minimizing legal liability and the latest best practices during this 90-minute presentation.

Thursday, September 6th. 7pm. Adult Nonfiction Book Club. Meets on the first Thursday of each month. This month, the club will discuss "Isaac's Storm" by Erik Larson. Copies available at the circulation desk.
Friday, September 7th. 3pm. Paws for Reading. Read to Rodney and Baby Ruth in the Children's Department Story Tower. The small, friendly therapy dogs like showing off their keen fashion sense, meeting new people and having stories read to them. Don't forget to RSVP!

NEW! Tuesday, September 11th. 7pm. Can We Talk?
Join us for the launch of this new discussion group dedicated to fostering conversations on vital issues in an open-minded, non-confrontational environment. Our first topic will be "Words Matter: Respectful language, inappropriate terms, and the importance of getting it right."
Sunday, September 16th. 1:30pm-2:30pm. Babar the Elephant & The Phoenix Woodwind Quintet: a family concert. All ages welcome.

Saturday, September 22nd. 9am to 3pm 1st Annual Classic Car & Motorcycle Show!! Join the Friends of the Secaucus Public Library for a day of classic automobiles, delicious food, great music, vendors, 50-50 raffles, pony rides, petting zoo animals, children’s activities and more! Free admission for all spectators! (Rain date: Saturday, September 29th. 9am to 3pm.) Please note this is not at the library: It will be held on the grounds of the Secaucus Recreation Center 1200 Koelle Blvd, Secaucus, NJ 07094

Sunday, September 23rd. 1pm. The Independent Film Discussion Series returns with a screening of "The Boys in the Band," a 1970 drama based on the recently-revived 1968 play of the same name.
Tuesday, September 25th. National Voter Registration Day. NJ Voter Registration forms are always available at the library, but on National Voter Registration Day, we are going to be celebrating with stickers, special displays and more!
Wednesday, September 26th. 7pm. Novelist Jon D'Amore returns to the Secaucus Public Library! D'Amore is visiting our library as part of his book tour for his latest novel, "The Delivery Man." This cleverly woven action thriller and murder mystery is interlaced with just the right amounts of revenge, espionage, romance, humor and deceit. "The Delivery Man" touches the heart, mind and angry inner-beast within us all. Jon D’Amore garnered successful careers as a musician, a corporate executive and a script doctor to Hollywood studios and production companies. Hailing from New Jersey, Jon now resides in the American Southwest and writes solely for pleasure. He wants for nothing but to bring entertainment and enjoyment to the lives of others. His previous bestsellers are "The Boss Always Sits In The Back" and "Deadfellas."

NEW! Friday, September 28th. 7pm. Golden Girls Trivia Night. Come alone or bring friends and confidants for a fun night of Golden Girls trivia. There will be book prizes and CHEESECAKE! Ages 18 and up.

Tuesday, October 2nd. 7pm. Ask a Lawyer: Starting an LLC. Robert Zych, Attorney at Law, will talk about Limited Liability Companies and whether starting one is the right fit for you. Open forum Q&A will follow the presentation.
Thursday, October 4th. 7pm. Digital Local History Photo Archive Kick Off Meeting. We need your help to create our first archive of Secaucus and Hudson County historical photographs. Even though this is a digital archive, a good portion of the volunteer work is low-tech- no computer skills needed! See our events calendar at secaucuslibrary.org for more information about this project and to register as a volunteer. This program is made possible by grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State, and administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas A. DeGise, Hudson County Executive & the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Wednesday, October 10th. 7pm. An Evening with author J.D. Griffo. Join us for a reading and signing of his popular mystery, Murder at Memory Lake. Copies of the novel are available at the library. Additional copies for the signing will be sold at the event.
Sunday, October 21st. 1pm. The Independent Film Discussion Series finishes up their 2018 season with The Leisure Seeker, a 2017 dramatic comedy featuring Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland.
Friday, October 26th to Sunday, October 28th. Annual Fall Book Sale. Our largest book sale of the year will happen on the library's second floor during all library operating hours. Books, CDs and DVDs will be sold for the bargain price of just $5 per bag! A preview event for current Friends of the Secaucus Public Library members will be held from 6pm-9pm on Thursday, October 25th.
Thursday, November 15th. 7pm. One World Celebration: A Journey Through Mexico. Don't miss this performance featuring pre-colonial instruments and vibrant interpretations of music, dance and authentic Mexican culture. This program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a division of the Department of State, and administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas A. DeGise, Hudson County Executive & the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
