Truck On Fire Caused NJ Transit Delays Near Portal Bridge Project In Secaucus
This happened Wednesday night at the Portal North bridge construction site behind Laurel Hill:
SECAUCUS, NJ — A truck containing welding materials caught on fire Wednesday night near Laurel Hill Park, triggering a heavy response from the Secaucus Police and fire departments, and causing delays on NJ Transit.
The truck fire broke out at 6:02 p.m. It was a cargo box truck containing welding materials and this occurred on NJ Transit property at Laurel Hill Park.
NJ Transit is running a large construction site behind Laurel Hill as it builds a new portal north bridge train track over the Hackensack River.

The truck belonged to a contractor working on the portal bridge, said NJ Transit. The smoke and fire was about 150 feet from the train tracks, causing NJ Transit delays in and out of New York City.
Secaucus firefighters were on the scene until 11 p.m. putting out the fire. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries; one was transported to Secaucus University Hospital for treatment and the other was evaluated on scene, refusing further medical attention.
