Woman, 35, Killed In Secaucus Hit And Run Along Rt. 3

The woman was fatally struck on a Rt. 3 service road Monday evening, near the Secaucus Home Depot. The driver fled the scene, say police.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A 35-year-old Union City woman was killed in a hit and run Monday evening in Secaucus, the Hudson County prosecutor reported.

The woman was fatally struck while walking on a Rt. 3 service road, in the area of 850 Paterson Plank Road. This is the high-traffic area near the Secaucus Home Depot, Mamajuana Cafe and the entrance to the NJ Turnpike.

Secaucus police first got the call at approximately 7:30 p.m Monday of a pedestrian struck with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the woman was walking in the direction of Union City when she was struck by either a Chevy Suburban or Tahoe. The driver fled the scene.

She was taken to Hudson Regional Hospital, but pronounced dead at 11:16 p.m. The woman has not been identified by name. She worked at a cheese-making business on Windsor Drive in Secaucus, and was walking home from work when she was hit and killed, said Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli, who called her death "awful."

Detectives are looking for the driver of the car, which is described as a late model (2017-2019) Chevy Suburban or Tahoe.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating this incident.
