Woman Hit, Killed By Light Rail Monday Night In Weehawken

WEEHAWKEN, NJ — A woman was hit and killed by a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train Monday night in Weehawken, NJ Transit confirmed.

The fatal accident happened at approximately 11 p.m. Monday, when a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train bound for Hoboken struck and fatally injured an adult woman near Port Imperial Boulevard in Weehawken.

There is a light rail station on Port Imperial Blvd.; it's unclear if the woman was getting on or off the train when she was struck.

There were approximately 70 people onboard the light rail and none of them were injured, said an NJ Transit spokeswoman. Those customers were transferred to another train without incident and there was no impact to light rail service last night.

New Jersey Transit Police are investigating. NJ Transit declined to give any more details at this time.
