Woman Left Keys In Car, Car Stolen In Secaucus

SECAUCUS, NJ — Last Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, a car was stolen out of the parking lot in front of the Wendy's/Dunkin' Donuts at 16 Meadowlands Parkway.

A woman had left her keys inside the vehicle and went into the Wendy's, said Secaucus Police.

The theft happened at 1:33 p.m. Sept. 16: A woman left her keys inside a 1996 Honda Accord and went into the Wendy's fast-food restaurant.

When she came out, the car was gone.

Secaucus Police contacted the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force, located in Newark, and that task force was able to identify a suspect. Chanika Crear, 49, of Houston, Texas was arrested last week by Secaucus Police and charged with burglary [2C:18-2A(1)] and theft of a motor vehicle [2C:20-10.1]. She was found to have one outstanding warrant in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, issued out of Houston, TX with limited extradition only.

Crear was lodged at the Hudson County jail.
