Union City Man Stabbed Woman 'Multiple Times,' Killing her: HCPO

A New Jersey man was arrested this week after a woman was stabbed to death multiple times, according to authorities.

A New Jersey man was arrested this week after a woman was stabbed to death multiple times, according to authorities.

The man has been identified as Kevin Cortes, 26, of Union City, who was transported to Palisades Medical Center for evaluation after the Monday incident, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

The officers located a woman on the third floor of a residence with multiple wounds to her upper body. The victim has been identified as Giselle Bravo, 20, of Queens, NY.

The incident happened at approximately 5:25 a.m., when the Union City Police Department received a report of a person stabbed at 3612 New York Avenue. Upon arrival, responding Union City police officers allegedly encountered Cortes with a knife inside the building. The officers were able to secure the knife and detain the man, according to the HCPO.

Bravo was administered lifesaving aid at the scene and was then transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at approximately 6:40 a.m. The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the HCPO.

Cortes has been charged with murder in the first-degree crime and weapons charges.
