Young Man With Assault Weapon Arrested In Secaucus Thursday

A young man with a semi-automatic assault weapon was found trying to break into a relative's home Thursday on Clarendon Street, police said.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A young man with a semi-automatic assault weapon was found trying to break into a relative's home Thursday on Clarendon Street, Secaucus police report.

At approximately 5:02 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, June 28, a resident of the 300 block of Clarendon Street called police to report that a family member was attempting to “break into” his home. When police arrived, they detained Adam Rodriguez, 20, of Nashville, TN, pictured above.

Police also did a sweep of the exterior of the home, where they said they found an abandoned backpack. Inside was an Intratec TECH 9, a semi-automatic assault firearm, along with a twenty-round large capacity magazine.

After further investigation, it became known that the backpack and the assault firearm belonged to Rodriguez, who was subsequently arrested, police said. He was also found in possession of suspected Xanax. It was determined that no illegal entry was made into the home.

Secaucus police Capt. Dennis Miller told Patch that where he got the gun, or where the gun is registered, remains under investigation.

Rodriguez was charged with possession of CDS, unlawful possession of an assault firearm and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
