Health Camp of New Jersey – HCNJ hold their annual Health Fair at Durga Mandir in South Brunswick township, NJ on Sunday, September 17, 2023 where 100 participated and benefitted from various health screening and disease prevention, education and counseling services. Health Camp of New Jersey, a non-profit organization under tax exempt code 501© (3) has been organizing the health fairs at this location to benefit needy people in the South Asian community since 1999.
The health fair was open to all pre-registered participants in the uninsured or underinsured categories to receive preventive screening, education and counseling for chronic diseases to include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, cancer and mental health disorders. The comprehensive health screening included blood test, EKG, vision screening for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, physical examination, dental screening, cardiology and neurology evaluation, pharmacy and dietary counseling, physical therapy, podiatry, various types of cancer screening and prevention education, women disorders, influenza vaccination and alternative medicine counseling. The physicians, dentists, mental health providers and various specialties of internal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, neurology and allied health specialists such as dietary and nutritional specialist, pharmacist, phlebotomists, EKG techs, medical assistants, nurses, social workers and medical students provided their services to screen and educate patients on various chronic diseases abnormalities and cancer screening and education specifically focused to the South Asian population. Penn Medicine Princeton, LabCorp, NJ Commission for the Blind, SAMHIN, Zufall Health and many other community and health care volunteer organizations provided their services during this health fair. Rotary Club of Plainsboro-North and South Brunswick and their adult and youth, SEWA and NJ Youth Artists Club volunteers provided their service and support to this health fair.
To date, HCNJ provided screening to more than 12,500 needy people in South Asian communities throughout the state since its inception in 1998 and detected more than 4,000 chronic diseases abnormalities. The next health fair will be on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Secaucus, NJ. HCNJ will celebrate their 25th Anniversary Gala event on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Balaji Temple Auditorium in Bridgewater, NJ. As part of the 25th Anniversary celebration, HCNJ will have a new initiative to open a community health center in New Jersey by 2026 to benefit needy individuals and follow-up services throughout the year.
