12 Residents Graduate From Citizen Police Academy In South Brunswick

During the 11-week program, community members learned about crime scene processing, defensive tactics, and internal affairs.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Citizen Police Academy classes in South Brunswick are popular in the Township and this year 12 residents graduated from the program.

The 2022 South Brunswick Citizen Police Academy was a 11-week program that offered training on various law enforcement topics including motor vehicle laws, criminal law, and use of force.

This is the 10th academy class since the program was brought back in 2015, authorities said.

During the program, community members learned about crime scene processing, defensive tactics, and internal affairs.

The program ended with a day of practical exercises where students handled simulated motor vehicle stops, disputes, and other realistic scenarios.

“These community members have completed the required 11 weeks of classroom and practical exercises to graduate from the Citizen Police Academy. This experience provides individuals from our community a unique perspective on policing,” Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said.

Classes were held one night every week at the South Brunswick Police Training Center.

Lt. Tara Jairdullo the coordinator of the Academy said the classes provided an opportunity for community members and officers to develop a better relationship.

"The more we can open up and show what we do, the stronger our ties are to the community,” Jairdullo.

This year’s graduates are Chuck Brodheim, Arif Khan, Hitesh Patel, Suman Priya, Leonard J. Raab Jr., Tapas Ray, Brenda Rebello, Lemonte Sanders, Sharath Shankar, Salman Syed, Jaghan Yamuna and Kedar Zavar.
