Man Tried To Carjack Jamesburg Resident Taking Out Garbage: Police

The woman was in her driveway when she was knocked down by a man who demanded her vehicle keys, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Two men were charged with carjacking after one of them knocked a woman to the ground and demanded her car keys, Jamesburg police said.

Rayj Durant, 20, of Brooklyn NY and Hazma Williams,19, from Bronx NY was charged with carjacking and conspiracy to commit carjacking.

On Nov. 30, around 8:30 a.m. a resident of Forsgate Drive in Jamesburg was in her driveway tending to the garbage when she was knocked down near the road by a man who demanded her vehicle keys, Jamesburg police said.

When the woman refused to hand over her car keys, the man got into the vehicle in an attempt to leave with it, police said. The woman told police there were multiple suspects on location.

The men were not able to get the vehicle started and left the area on foot to the nearby CVS parking lot, police said. Three witnesses were able to help the Jamesburg Police Department with identifying those involved.

On the same day, Jamesburg police learned that a carjacking had occurred in Englishtown. They contact the Englishtown Police, and through a joint investigation concluded that the men who committed the carjacking in Englishtown where the same who attempted to carjack the Jamesburg woman, police said.

At the time of the charges, Durant and Williams were being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
