South Brunswick, NJ - Hmm, did you give blood as part of the South Brunswick High School blood drive?

Well, the first-ever blood drive, held May 23 and 24, was such a success that SBHS was chosen as "Rookie of the Year" by the New York Yankees, as part of Yankees' annual high school blood drive championship, now in its 20th year.

Along with 14 other winning schools, South Brunswick will be honored this Thursday night, June 9, when the Yankees play the LA Angels at Yankee Stadium. Three representatives from SBHS will get to go on the field for a pre-game recognition ceremony, and they are: Bhumi Mehta, Ramya Sudhakar and Mrs. Peri Sokol Orlando. Ramya and Bhumi are students: Ramya is the president of the American Red Cross Club and Bhumi is secretary of the ARC club, a volunteer club. Along with school nurse Donna Moreen, Mrs. Sokol was one of the faculty advisers for the blood drive.

The New York Blood Center will be presenting Ramya and Bhumi with a championship banner, which will be hung up in the halls of South Brunswick High. Well done to both Ramya and Bhumi, and everyone who donated blood!, says Mrs. Moreen.
