2 Vehicles Stolen, 20 Cars Targeted By Thieves In South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — From Sunday night into Monday morning, 13 South Brunswick residents were victims of car burglars and thieves, South Brunswick Police said.

Two vehicles were stolen from the township, police said. These vehicles were left unlocked, and the keys were inside the car, making them an easy target for thieves, police said. In one case, a vehicle was stolen from an unlocked garage.

A total of 20 vehicles were targeted, with 13 being unlocked and their interiors ransacked and items stolen. An additional seven vehicles were locked and, although the thieves tried to open the doors, they were unable to, and nothing was stolen from those vehicles, police said.

Police have been able to recover some video surveillance from residents, but are seeking additional video footage of the Monmouth Junction area, especially The Grande, South Ridge Hills, Fresh Impressions, and Monmouth Walk.

Residents with exterior video feeds are asked to check for any activity between midnight and 7 a.m. on November 15, 2021. Anyone with useful footage may contact Detective Sergeant Penney at (732)329-4646.

A growing number of car theft and burglaries have plagued the South Brunswick- Princeton area in the past few weeks.

On Nov. 7 a South Brunswick resident was killed following a head-on collision after a teen driver crashed a stolen vehicle from Princeton.

Since August 1, Princeton police have investigated 10 motor vehicle thefts. Police also pointed out that similar motor vehicle thefts are occurring statewide.

The South Brunswick Police Department has urged residents to follow safety tips to prevent future thefts and burglaries:

  • Lock your vehicles, especially when parked overnight. Double-check before going to bed.
  • Never leave your keys or key fob in your vehicle. Always take it with you and lock your vehicle.
  • Close and lock your garage doors at night.
