Monroe Daycare Under Investigation After 2-Year-Old Found Wandering Nearby

A Good Samaritan found the child walking by herself on the shoulder of a busy road. The girl is developmentally disabled as well, police say

Monroe Township, NJ - A developmentally disabled 2-year old girl wandered away from a daycare facility in Monroe Township on Wednesday, and the childcare facility is now under investigation by the state, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey announced Friday afternoon.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, a 2-year-old developmentally disabled girl wandered away from a state-licensed daycare facility on Prospect Plains Road in Monroe Township, Monroe Township Police Chief Michael E. Lloyd said. He did not reveal the name of the daycare center.

A Good Samaritan saw the child walking by herself on the shoulder of Applegarth Road. That person safely removed the child from the busy road, and called the Monroe Police Department. It was determined that the child was under the supervision of the daycare when she walked off. The daycare facility did not notify police that the child had gone missing, Lloyd said.
