The 'Love is Light' 5k run/walk will take place on July 16, in honor of Daniel Anderl, who died protecting his parents.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The second and last edition of the "Love is Light" 5k run/walk is scheduled to take place on July 16 at the North Brunswick Community Park.
The 5K will be commemorating the second death anniversary of Daniel Anderl, District Judge Esther Salas’s son, who died protecting his parents after the shooter opened fire at the family's North Brunswick home on July 19, 2020.
Over 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the 5k, which will be raising funds for a scholarship at St. Augustine of Canterbury School in South Brunswick, where Daniel studied before moving to St. Joseph High School, Metuchen.

The Daniel Anderl Memorial Scholarship Fund hopes to reach a goal of $100,000 which will provide for an endowed academic scholarship in Anderl’s memory at the grammar school at St. Agustine’s.
“Danny was a smart, funny, compassionate, competitive, caring and loyal person. He was a popular student-athlete at Saint A's, and graduated in 2014 with honors,” the race website said.

The Love is Light 5K Run/Walk also hopes to bring awareness about the need to keep the personal information of judges private and off public websites. After Daniel's death, Gov. Phil Murphy signed 'Daniel's Law' protecting the home addresses and telephone numbers of judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers from public disclosure.
Daniel was a student at the Catholic University of America and had planned on following in the footsteps of his parents, judge Salas and criminal defense attorney Mark Anderl. Read more: Mourning Daniel Anderl, The Murdered Son Of A Federal Judge
The walk/run will also be held virtually for those who cannot join. Registration fees for adults is $35, plus a $3.25 sign-up fee. Students and those who are 12 and under can sign up for $25. For more information, click here.
