SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Get out of the house and involved in your community. From free movies to book clubs, to cooking classes and historical society meetings, here's everything going on this January, February and March at the South Brunswick Public Library:
1. Resolve to read more in the new year with the South Brunswick public library! There are four book clubs for adults that meet regularly at the South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction, NJ.
Try one. Book clubs can help you explore new book titles and genres you may not have on your own, while the group discussions will enhance your reading experience.

The Monday Night Book Club meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Leedom Local Archives Room.

To obtain a copy of a book, place your request at the Information Desk. Allow at least two weeks for Interlibrary Loan processing.
Coffee and Conversation Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Leedom Local Archives Room.

Feb. 13 - The Other Einstein: a novel by Marie Benedict by Bernadette Maria Semple.
Bite Club - A Cookbook Book Club meets monthly on a Monday at 7 p.m. in Program Room 1A.
Jan. 28 - Gordon Ramsay's Lean and Fit and Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking.
Feb. 25 - Adventures in Slow Cooking and Slow Cooker Revolution.
Small Wonders Short Story Club meets monthly on a Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the SmartLab.
Jan. 30 – The Journey of the Corpse by Feng Menglong
Feb. 20 – Everything is Far From Here by Christina Henriquez

2. Join us if you like history and long rambling stories. The South Brunswick Historical Society meets each month at the South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction, in the Ceil Leedom Local History Archive. All are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos and memories to share and discuss. The next meeting of the Society will be at the Slack-Carroll House in Dayton on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. They will meet back at the Library in February on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Historical Society, contact Randall Marsola at rmarsola@sbpl.info
3. Learn to cook in the Library. Day and evening cooking classes are offered each month at the South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane in Monmouth Jct. D’s Kitchen Lab offers a different topic each month. Registration required and a $5 materials fee. Learn by hands on and demonstration.
In February learn how to make fresh ricotta cheese from scratch. Then try some cannoli with homemade ricotta filling. Recipes and tasting included. Registration required. A $5 fee per person due in advance at time of registration at the Information Services Desk in the Library. Please note Kitchen Lab registration fees are no longer refundable for any reason. Waiver must be signed in class. Open to adults ages 18 and up only.
Waiting List Guidelines: We may not always be able to notify you in advance if openings are available. If we have any last minute cancellations, we will take people in order from the Waiting List.
Classes are on a Thursday evening and a Friday afternoon each month. The Ricotta Cheese class will be on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and again on Friday, Feb. 15 at noon. Register and pay in person at the Library.

4. See a full-length popular feature or world language film, or documentary each month at the South Brunswick Public Library. Admission is free. Your snacks welcome. All films are shown on a large screen in Meeting Room A/B. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Puzzle - Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. (2018, Rated R, 103 minutes) Directed by Marc Turtletaub. Starring: Kelly Macdonald and Irfan Khan. Agnes receives a jigsaw puzzle as a birthday gift and experiences the heady thrill of doing something she enjoys and being very, very good at it.
BlackkKlansman - Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. (2018, Rated R, 135 minutes) Directed by Spike Lee. Starring John David Washington and Adam Driver. An African-American police officer from Colorado successfully manages to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan.
Upcoming World Cinema:
Cook Up a Storm (China) - Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. (China, 2018, NR, 97 minutes) Directed by Wai Man Yip. Starring Nicholas Tse, You Ge, and Anthony Wong Chau-Sang. A Cantonese street cook and his chief rival, a French-trained Michelin-starred chef, discover they have a lot in common, as they prepare for a world-famous culinary competition. Their rivalry takes an unexpected turn when they discover a common foe and combine their skills in a fusion of East and West.
Gabriel and the Mountain (Portugal) - Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. (no Sunday showing) (Portugal, 2018, NR, 132 minutes) Directed by: Fellipe Barbosa. Starring Joao Pedro Zappa, Caroline Abras, and Alex Alembe. Before entering a prestigious American university, Gabriel decides to travel the world for one year, his backpack full of dreams.

Civilizations - Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 12:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 12:30 p.m. Through this fall we are showing the recent BBC/PBS Series Civilizations hosted by Simon Schama, professor at Columbia University. Lunchtime Learning is on the third or fourth Wednesday of each month. Expand your mind with compelling and entertaining documentaries or lectures on culture and the arts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch. Coffee, tea and dessert will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. 5. Travelogue: If you are an avid traveler, trip planner or a dreamer, share your experiences and discover new destinations, new travel resources and meet new friends at Travelogue at the South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane in Monmouth Jct.
