Route 1 Water Main Fixed In South Brunswick, But Boil Water Advisory Still In Effect

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Crews repaired a water main break on Route 1 overnight, but a township-wide boil water advisory remains in place while water samples undergo testing, officials said Thursday.

Water pressure is functioning throughout the township following the repair, according to the South Brunswick Water Department. Crews submitted water samples to an independent laboratory Thursday morning. Results must be reviewed and approved by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection before the advisory can be lifted.

The boil water advisory was issued Tuesday after a main break at 4300 Route 1 at the intersection of Dow Jones Road caused a significant loss of pressure across the service area. Patch

Residents are advised to bring all tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before use. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food, making ice, and washing dishes.

Officials recommend discarding any ice, uncooked food, or beverages made with tap water since the advisory was issued. Residents should avoid swallowing water while showering or bathing and should not rely on home filtering devices, which most do not remove microorganisms.
