South Brunswick Approves $375K Bond To Buy Emergency Generator

The Township Council voted 4-0 to authorize the borrowing, which will fund a new diesel-powered backup generator at Pump Station #13.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick Township has authorized $375,000 in bonds to purchase a new emergency generator for Pump Station #13, part of the township's water and sewer utility infrastructure.

The Township Council adopted the bond ordinance April 15, approving the purchase of a Caterpillar diesel-powered emergency generator rated at 600 kilowatts.

The generator is designed to keep the pump station running during power outages.

The council amended the ordinance the same night before final adoption to include a standard provision allowing up to $75,000 of the total bond amount to cover related expenses permitted under state law.

Township Clerk Barbara Nyitrai said the change was not substantive and did not affect the total bond amount.

Under the ordinance, the township may issue bonds or bond anticipation notes — short-term borrowing instruments used in anticipation of longer-term bond issuance — in the principal amount of $375,000. The generator has an estimated useful life of 15 years.

The ordinance takes effect 20 days after its first publication following final adoption.
