SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Trenton man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in late April, Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera said.
On April 19, at 2:04 a.m., the South Brunswick Police Department received a report of a collision on Route 1 North at the intersection of Ridge Road.
When authorities arrived at the scene of the crash, they found three vehicles involved in the collision.
A 2025 Toyota Camry driven by a 31-year-old woman from Jersey City was struck in the rear by a 2012 Lexus SUV driven by Leonid Tubert, 53, of Chester, PA.
The driver and passenger of the Camry exited the vehicle to assess the damage and speak with Tubert.
While they were outside of the vehicle, a 2016 Lexus Sedan driven by Darnell Ingram, 45, of Trenton, struck the back of the Lexus SUV, pinning Tubert between the two cars, Estremera said.
Tubert was brought to Robert Wood Johnson University in critical
condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Ingram was taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the Camry sustained minor injuries and was also brought to the hospital for treatment. The passenger of the Camry sustained no injuries.
Following the receipt of toxicological test results, Ingram was charged on May 11 with second-degree vehicular
homicide, third-degree assault by auto, third-degree causing death while operating a motor vehicle while suspended, fourth-degree causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle while suspended, and driving under the influence, Estremera said
On May 11, Ingram turned himself in. As a result of his pre-trial hearing, he was released on level 3+ home detention.
The investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer James Kraivec of the South Brunswick Police Department at 732-329-4000 or Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4011.
