South Brunswick 2026 Primary Election: Republican Candidates Thank Voters For Support

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Republican candidates for South Brunswick Mayor and Township Council have extended their thanks to voters for their support in the 2026 Primary Election.

According to unofficial results from Middlesex County, John G. O'Sullivan, who ran for the Republican Party's nomination for mayor, secured 839 votes in the primary, while Michael J. Havardansky, who ran for the party's nomination for town council, secured 809 votes.

The two ran unopposed for the Republican Party nominations and will run against democratic incumbents Charlie Carley for mayor and Ken Bierman for council in the General Election in November.

If elected, O'Sullivan and Havardansky said they "will work every day to make South Brunswick stronger, more transparent, and better prepared for the future."

"John G' O'Sullivan and Mike Havardansky thanked residents for their support in the Primary Election and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the issues they have emphasized throughout the campaign," the pair said in a news release sent to Patch.

Some of the goals O'Sullivan and Havardansky are focused on if elected are as follows:

• Control overdevelopment
  • When housing expands faster than infrastructure, the pair said it strains schools, roads and public safety
  • Review the Fair Share Housing Plan agreed by council and mayor and renegotiate if necessary
  • Work with the school board and fire districts to properly plan for what's coming
  • Work with the state and county to regulate traffic and other issues
  • Protect historic areas like Kingston and Dayton
  • Preserve parks and recreation areas
• Improving quality of life
  • Review the Master Plan to keep the focus on township residents rather than warehouses by keeping residents informed on the ongoing process
  • Maintain the parks for a new generation of residents to use
• Transparency
  • Update the township website to make it more user-friendly
  • More messaging from the mayor and council
  • Use Nixle to announce council and planning board meetings
  • Town Halls outside of council meetings to make it easier for citizens in different parts of town to attend in their area

"We are grateful to every voter who supported us in the primary," O'Sullivan and Havardansky said. "This campaign is about planning today for the town we'll share tomorrow."
