South Brunswick Police Announce 9-Week Citizen Police Academy

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Police Department is inviting residents to apply for its Citizen Police Academy, a nine-week program offering a behind-the-scenes look at police work.

The academy will run for nine weeks starting Wednesday, Sept. 23, meeting once a week from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the South Brunswick Police Department, according to the department.

Participants will learn about car stops and use of force, body-worn camera utilization, first aid response, evidence collection and more, the department said. The program also includes a hands-on practical exercise giving participants a sense of what it's like to work as a South Brunswick police officer.

Spots are limited. Residents interested in applying must submit a completed application by Aug. 6 to Amber Weingart at aweingart@sbpdnj.net and Detective Ryan Bartunek at rbartunek@sbpdnj.net.
