SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick voters will decide two contested races on this November's ballot: mayor and one Township Council seat, both for four-year terms.
Incumbent Democratic Mayor Charlie Carley faces Republican challenger John G. O'Sullivan. For the council seat, Democratic incumbent Ken Bierman faces Republican challenger Michael J. Havardansky.
O'Sullivan and Havardansky ran unopposed in the June primary, according to Patch's prior reporting, with O'Sullivan securing 839 votes and Havardansky securing 809 votes in results from Middlesex County. The pair have said they want to work "every day to make South Brunswick stronger, more transparent, and better prepared for the future," and have outlined priorities including controlling overdevelopment, revisiting the township's Fair Share Housing Plan, and increasing transparency at Town Hall.
Carley, a civil engineer, has served as mayor and previously on the Township Council, and has pointed to stable municipal tax rates and redevelopment of derelict properties along the Route 1 corridor as achievements of his administration, according to a past Patch candidate profile.
Bierman is the Democratic incumbent on the council seat up for election.
The general election is Nov. 3.
