SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Hot dogs, ice pops, and a brand-new trading card collection brought residents out for South Brunswick's 2026 National Night Out at Rowland Park.

The annual event brought together residents, police officers, and community partners for an evening of food, games, and community spirit.

Volunteers served up thousands of hot dogs, veggie dogs, bottles of water, ice pops, and bags of popcorn and chips throughout the night.

Acting Chief Jim Ryan praised the turnout and what the event means for the department's relationship with residents.

"National Night Out is one of the best opportunities we have each year to strengthen the connection between our officers and the community we serve," Ryan said. "Seeing families, neighbors, and officers interacting in such a positive environment helps build trust, create lasting relationships, and reminds us that public safety is a partnership."

One of the biggest hits of the night was the debut of the South Brunswick Police Officer Trading Card Community Engagement Initiative. Kids roamed the park meeting officers from different divisions, working to collect the full set of cards — and picking up a few conversations about the department along the way.

The department credited its community sponsors for making the free, family-friendly event possible, saying their support helps National Night Out grow each year while strengthening the bond between police and the people they serve.
