Mosquito Control Trucks To Spray Parts Of South Brunswick: See Details

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Mosquito control trucks will spray parts of South Brunswick on Monday night, weather permitting, county officials said.

The Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission will spray neighborhoods around Culver Road, Friendship Road and New Road from 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Monday, according to a notice from the commission. If weather forces a delay, the rain date is Tuesday.

The truck-mounted spraying targets adult mosquitoes, both for nuisance control and to limit the spread of mosquito-borne disease, the commission said. Crews will use Zenivex E4, a product registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The commission said truck spraying is safe. It said the insecticide does not pose a risk to people, pets or the environment when applied according to label instructions and breaks down quickly.

Residents don't need to leave the area, but the commission offered these tips:

• Keep your distance from spray trucks and equipment.

• Stay inside if you prefer, with windows and doors closed for 15 to 30 minutes while the truck passes.

• Bring in pets, food and water bowls. Wash any uncovered outdoor toys or pet dishes before using them again.

• Cover beehives. Beekeepers can loosely cover hives with a wet cloth or burlap.

• Rinse produce. Wash backyard fruits and vegetables before eating them, or cover garden beds with a light sheet during the spray window.

• Call your doctor if you think you're having health effects from the spraying, especially if you have chemical sensitivities or a respiratory condition.
