SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Public Library is holding a grand opening for its expanded and renovated Christopher J. Killmurray Building on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a ribbon-cutting and a family carnival.
The ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. The carnival runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a bouncy house, refreshments, family attractions and music in the library's new Friends Theatre.
Construction started in November 2023. The library stayed open for most of the project, with a few temporary closures and delayed openings.
The project added expanded Teen Rooms, four reservable workspaces, a Quiet Room and an Innovation Lab. There are also new family and caregiver restrooms, a meeting room and the Friends Theatre.
The new addition will now be the library's main and only public entrance, with three doors off the new parking lot. Visitors should use the new driveway entrance by the addition. The lot used during construction will go back to staff parking.
The project was funded in part by the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act, which the New Jersey State Library administers. Additional support came from Middlesex County, the state, the federal government and a capital campaign by the SBPL Foundation.
The library also thanked Mayor Charlie Carley, the Township Council, state Sen. Andrew Zwicker and U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman.
The library is at 110 Kingston Lane in Monmouth Junction. More information is at sbpl.info.
