SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Two incumbents and a newcomer lead the race for three seats on the South Brunswick Board of Education, according to unofficial results.
With all 30 districts reporting as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, incumbent Mike Mitchell had the most votes, followed by incumbent Raja Krishna, the Middlesex County Clerk's Office reported. Maryam Pal, a first-time board member if the results hold, was third.
Here are the unofficial results:
Pal led Kamalakannan by 1,477 votes for the third seat.
Four candidates ran for three three-year terms. Current board member Smitha Raj did not seek reelection.
Mitchell and Krishna were first elected in 2020, when they ran on a slate with Raj and unseated three incumbents. If the results hold, both will begin their third terms in January.
Mitchell has worked as a paraeducator in New Brunswick Public Schools and has coached tennis and bowling at South Brunswick High School. Krishna is an Army veteran.
Pal ran for the board in 2025 and would be new to it.
Kamalakannan is a former board member. He ran for a two-year unexpired term on the board last year.
Results remain unofficial until the Middlesex County Board of Canvassers certifies them, which the county says will happen on or before Nov. 18.
New board members will be sworn in at the board's reorganization meeting in January.
