Bench At Veterans Park South Brunswick Dedicated To Jodi Marcou

Marcou, who served for years on the South Brunswick Human Relations Commission, died in a car crash last year.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Last week, South Brunswick held a bench dedication ceremony at Veterans Park in memory of Jodi Wexler Marcou.

Marcou was an activist who served for years on the South Brunswick Human Relations Commission as a member and Vice-Chair.

Members of the community and Marcou’s family were present during the dedication ceremony. In an emotional message, her son thanked the township for recognizing Marcou's work and commitment to the community.

"While you might like sharing a bench with friends and family, sometimes you might share it with strangers. My mom devoted so much time to strangers with all the volunteer work that she did, in the Human Relations Commission and more than any of us could ever know," he said.

"Just like the bench that's always there - regardless of the heat, rain and snow, my mom was there in a heartbeat if you needed her."

Marcou, 61, was killed last year following a head-on collision that took place after a teen driver had stolen a vehicle from Princeton.

She was an employee at Rutgers University, working as a Development Specialist. Marcou was a 1980 graduate of Rider University.
