Bridge Work Continues on Route 18 This Weekend

Police are advising drivers to seek alternate routes.

The bridge work on Route 18, near Route 1 will continue this weekend, East Brunswick police said.

“The Route 18 Bridge over Route 1 superstructure will be demolished and new prefabricated superstructure units will be installed over weekends,’’ police said in an alert.

The roadwork will begin Friday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday.

According to police:

Two lanes of traffic will be open on Route 18 north and south, but 15 minute stoppages are expected.

The ramp to Route 18 south from Route 1 south will be closed all weekend.

The Ramp to Route 18 north from Route 1 north will be closed all weekend.

“The Ramp to Route 1 southbound from Route 18 (north) will be closed in conjunction with the auxiliary lane on Route 18 (north.)”

Between midnight and 8 a.m., traffic on Route 1 south will be detoured: motorists will be directed “toward Route 18 (north) where they will use the Route 27 exit as the U-Turn and follow signs back to Route 1.”
