Cat Scares Away Bear in South Brunswick
A tomcat named "Baby" scares off a bear sitting in a Ridge Road driveway.

South Brunswick, NJ - Up in Northern New Jersey, the bears are so confident they're taking afternoon dips in local swimming pools. Here in South Brunswick, they're being scared off by cats.
A six-foot tall black bear wandered into a Kingston back yard on Sunday afternoon, where it helped itself to a bird feeder, and then sat down on the driveway and started to eat. “My boyfriend Hugh (Dale) tried to scare him away,” Ridge Road resident Andra Camerota told TAP Into. “But (the bear) was completely brazen.”

Dale tried to bang metal garbage lids together and make other loud noises, but the bear didn't care, and sat there eating for 15 minutes.

Then, Baby, the couple's tomcat showed up. With his tail raised high, he started to stalk the bear, hissing, Camerota said.
The bear sauntered off. But he was seen again later Sunday, at around 1 p.m., near the Doubletree Hotel on Rt. 1, reports TAP Into. (Photo of the bear taken by Andra Camerota in her backyard, and provided by South Brunswick Police.)
