Charter School Spending Increases as South Brunswick Board of Ed Passes $143.7M Budget
Charter school spending went up by 29% this year, resulting in a 6-cent tax increase in the budget.

South Brunswick, NJ - The South Brunswick school board unanimously passed a $143.7 million budget Monday night that comes with a 6-cent tax increase, per $100 of assessed value, reports TAP Into.

Deb service for South Brunswick schools went up by 11%, but the largest spending increase was for charter schools: Charter school spending by the South Brunswick school district went up by 28.9% this year. The district spent $173,674 last year on charter schools, and this year that number went up to $223,891, reports TAP Into.

How much will your taxes go up?
That 6-cent tax increase works out to be $128 more for a home assessed at $200,000. "If you have a home that is assessed more than that, not worth but assessed more (at $300,000), it would be (a) $192 (increase) a year,” said District Business Administrator Anthony Tonzini, reports Tap Into.

Here is how the school budget is funded: 76.5% comes from local taxes; 17.4% comes from State Aid; 1.7% comes from Federal Programs; and 4.4% comes from other local sources.
