According to the township attorney, South Brunswick decided to take this step to ensure the fees are fair to “people who are towed and to the people who are doing the towing.”

To make amendments to the ordinance, officials looked at other townships to learn more, Bierman said.

Officials studied similar ordinances in Monroe, North Brunswick, West Windsor and Plainsboro.

Officials included verbiage in the amendment that will ensure the township can't exceed what the state already imposes in terms of fees for the turnpike and the parkway.
