BREAKING: The crash took out the traffic light. The intersection was closed at 8 a.m. for repairs. Expect heavy delays and avoid the area.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - This truck accident, pictured above, took out the traffic light at the intersection of Rt. 522 and Stouts Lane early Wednesday morning, South Brunswick police said. Despite the lack of a light, police opened the intersection to traffic for the morning commute, but then closed it again at 8 a.m. for repairs.

Delays are impacting Rt. 1, Rt. 522, New Road and Ridge Road Wednesday morning. The crash also brought wires down onto the wet, rainy roadway. The truck crashed after its driver fell asleep at the wheel, South Brunswick police told NJ.com. The truck driver fell asleep just before 6 a.m., veered off the road and into a guardrail and the traffic light, taking it down with him. Nobody was injured in the crash. However, the Stouts Lane/Rt. 522 traffic light will be out for two weeks so repairs can be made, police said.

Left turns will be prohibited from Rt. 522 West onto Stouts Lane as well as from Stouts Lane onto Rt. 522 West. Please follow all posted detours. Access to and from the South Brunswick High School can be made from; New Road to Ridge Road, Rt. 1 to Ridge Road, or Rt. 1 to Rt. 522 East.
