
With Cayla Del Piano leading the way, the South Brunswick High girls cross country team defeated East Brunswick, 23-34, this past Tuesday.
Del Piano had a time of 19:13. Nicolette Mateescu (20:19), Zenzali Lael (20:37), Emily Lane (21:59) and Kristen Tran (22:06) also scored for South Brunswick.
"I am extremely encouraged by the early dual meet results," South Brunswick Coach Wilfredo Rivera said. "I feel like the kids are learning how to race and look forward to continual improvement."

Rivera would just like to see that front pack close the gap with Del Piano. That would put South Brunswick in much better position for the upcoming county and state meets.
In the state and county races, South Brunswick would also have to designate just seven runners. In the meet against East Brunswick, South Brunswick ran 24 girls in the race.

Carly Trill (22:17), Melanie Huen (22:18), Nicole Sendner (22:42), Danielle Resnick (22:54) and Nina Paranjpe (22:54) rounded out the top 10.
Jessica Himmel (23:10), Danielle Oakes (23:22), Mia Tanpiengco (23:32), Emily Giarratano (23:54), Shruthi Shankar (24:04), Charlotte Thomas, Christina Zhang (24:51), Megan Hussey (25:02), Gina Martinez (24:38) (25:07), Khadija McDonald (27:53), Taiyana Madden (27:54), Kristen Huang (28:52), Archana Bottu (31:14) and Dhanashree Bahulekar (33:05) also competed in the race for South Brunswick.
"I fully expect to see drastic improvements for all of our runners in the upcoming weeks," Rivera said.
South Brunswick is now 2-0 on the year.
South Brunswick is scheduled to be back in action when it competes in the Six Flags Safari Invitational this Saturday.
