Del Piano Splits Results To Stay Alive In States

Senior gets the win to keep season going at least one more day.

South Brunswick senior Lucus Del Piano knew that a loss in the first round of the state finals would not only end his weekend, but his Viking career as well. After taking third at 189 in the Region 5 tournament last weekend, Del Piano was determined to not let that happen.

Taking on Colin Egan of Wall, Del Piano got the win he needed as he edged his opponent 3-2.With the win he was assured of at least one match on Saturday regardless of the results of his next match.

That match came against James Fox, the top seeded wrestler from St. Peters Prep. Fox came into the tournament with a perfect 4-1 record after claiming the Region 4 title. He showed why he is ranked so highly as he pinned Del Piano in just 3:09.
