Fatal Dump Truck Accident in Monroe Township Monday
The accident occurred on Rt. 522 near the popular Etsch Farms corn maze.
Monroe Township, NJ - A man was killed Monday in Monroe Township after the dump truck he was driving on Rt. 522 (Buckelew Avenue) flipped over, according to Monroe Township police.
The accident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on Rt. 522 near Etsch Farms, a popular farm known statewide for its famous corn maze. The driver, a 59-year-old Kearny man named Alcides Egoavil, was driving east on Buckelew when he lost control of the truck, crossing over the yellow line, Monroe police spokeswoman Lt. Lisa Robinson told Patch.
The truck swerved and flipped on its side, spilling its contents onto the roadway. Egoavil was pronounced dead at the scene, with injuries to his head and his chest. It remains unknown what caused the accident. Rt. 522 between Mount Mills Road and Spotswood-Englishtown Road was shut down for more than six hours Monday after the accident. The crash is being investigated by Officer Daniel Mosakowski of the Monroe Twp. Traffic Safety Division.
