Flooding Closes Rt. 1 South In South Brunswick

Breaking: Flooding has now closed part of Rt. 18 in New Brunswick, and Rt. 1 south in South Brunswick is down to one lane.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Stay safe if you are driving out there! Flooding has now closed some major roads in New Jersey, including part of Rt. 18 in New Brunswick and now part of Rt. 1 south in South Brunswick.

Rt. 1 south is closed at Rt. 522 in South Brunswick, police said. Flooding has closed all but one lane. Traffic is currently being diverted onto Promenade Blvd. to Rt. 27 south. Most of the flooding was caused by streams that swelled and overflowed in the heavy rain.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, here are the current roads closed in South Brunswick Twp.:

  • Rt. 1 south at Rt 522. All traffic being diverted onto Promenade Boulevard.
  • Mapleton Road from the Plainsboro border
  • Ridge Road between Rt. 1 and Rt. 27 due to flooding
  • Stillwell Road – Flooding is limiting travel

Ridge Road is also closed between Rt. 1 and Rt. 27 due to flooding. Stillwell Road has flooding and limited travel. There are several areas of concern for flooding being watched including Rt. 27 at Stillwell Road, Rt. 1 by the Dow Jones complex and Ridge Road at Rt. 1.

In North Brunswick, Jersey Avenue is closed between the Rt. 1 ramp and Huron Road until further notice due to flooding.

There is widespread flooding throughout South Brunswick Twp., police said, and conditions are expected to get worse over the next few hours Monday morning.
