Fox, Turtle, Chickens: South Brunswick PD Field Animal-Related Calls

Owing to the rural parts of town, the South Brunswick Police Department often fields a number of animal-related calls.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — On average, the South Brunswick Police department receives a total of 8,200 calls a month. But not all of them are to report crimes or crashes. At least 30 of those calls are related to animals.

According to data the police department shared with Patch, in July officers fielded various calls of animals straying on the street or other parts of town. Officers were often called out to rescue animals.

Earlier this month, a passerby found a turtle on the road. The driver then stopped and removed it off Route 522 before calling the police.

Later, officers were called to Georges Road, after receiving a complaint that residents found chickens crossing the road by Regal Drive.

"The rural nature of parts of the town contributes to animal calls," Deputy Chief Jim Ryan explained. "Most are deer calls, followed by loose dogs."
