Fundraiser For Custodian Fatally Struck Outside South Brunswick School
Dean Battaglia was a longtime employee of the building and grounds department in the school district.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A fundraiser has been set up for a school custodian who was fatally struck Wednesday morning while working outside a school.
Dean Battaglia, 53, was spraying weeds along a curb at Crossroads North Middle School on Georges Road when he was struck by a car. More: District Employee Struck, Killed Outside School In South Brunswick
The fundraiser is being organized by Jim Speldos on behalf of Battaglia’s family.

“He has made many friends throughout our community. At this time we are collecting for his family to help with any unforeseen expenses during this difficult time,” according to the fundraiser on GoFundMe.

Battaglia was a longtime employee of the building and grounds department in the school district.
In a message to the community, Superintendent Scott Feder described Battaglia as a "beloved member” of the school district. "We are all grieving this sad loss," Feder said.
"He also worked as a bus driver this school year and loved his students."
Battaglia leaves behind two children, and a fiancée who has three daughters.
His funeral services will begin on Thursday, June 23, 10 a.m. in the South Plainfield Funeral Home, followed by burial in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
Visitation hours are Tuesday, June 21, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 22 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
