Fundraiser For Family Of 'Devoted' Helmetta Fire Chief Killed In South Brunswick Crash
Family and friends of Christopher Acs have started a GoFundMe to help raise money to benefit his children. Acs died in a motorcycle crash.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Christopher Acs, chief of Helmetta’s Fire Department recently celebrated his 47th birthday. Those who knew him described Acs as a “devoted friend, co-worker, husband, father, fellow firefighter.”
Acs died on Monday after his motorcycle was struck by a 2019 Honda Odyssey in South Brunswick. He was riding his motorcycle northbound on Georges Road when he was struck, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. More: Helmetta Fire Chief Killed In South Brunswick Motorcycle Crash
Acs death has left his tight-knit community, friends and co-workers grieving.

“Appreciation is bestowed upon his selfless dedication to our community and for his service to others. On behalf of the Borough of Helmetta, Mayor and Administration, sentiments of deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his family, friends, and brothers and sisters of the Helmetta Fire Department and supporting agencies at this most difficult and sad time,” Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek said.
The mayor ordered all flags on borough properties to be flown at half-staff in honor of Acs.

A resident of Jamesburg, Acs was a 28-year veteran of the Helmetta Fire Department and also served as a Deputy Warden with the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service, B - Division, Section 10.
"He was a devoted, dedicated member who worked tirelessly on the apparatus and the building throughout the years. His efforts on behalf of the Borough of Helmetta will be sorely missed," the Helmetta Fire Department said in a statement on Facebook.
The New Jersey Volunteer Firefighters also paid tribute to Acs.
“Chief Christopher R. Acs, your dedication and service to the residents of the Borough of Helmetta and the State of New Jersey is greatly appreciated, may you rest in peace. We'll take it from here,” the NJ Volunteer Firefighters said in a Facebook post.
Family and friends of Acs have started a GoFundMe to help raise money for the family he leaves behind — wife Laura, 15-year-old daughter Sophia who’s in high school, and son Ethan, 11, who’s in middle school.
“Chris was very giving of his time and talents and would often help friends and family without the need for thanks or acknowledgment. Now it’s time to call upon his village – of friends, family, colleagues, and firefighters to help support his family,” the GoFundMe said.
The fundraiser said Acs has a “kind-hearted nature, quiet smile and ability to tinker with and fix anything.”
